TP Link’s Wireless Fidelity Router COMBINED with Modem

For a couple of days, I had been having issues with my WIFI. It kept on going getting connected and disconnected, which was a mystery in itself for me. I decided to sit next to my router and see whats happening. Amazingly every time i sat next to it, the ZyXel modem which i had for a year or two now behaved totally normal. The connection was rock solid and no drop outs.

This array of events kept re occurring until yesterday, when I saw the WIFI modem+router restarting on its own. I was flabbergasted. Simply no words for the erratic behavior of my BLACK BOX. So dare may I say , MUSTERED up the courage of calling the FRIENDLY and HIGHLY COMPETENT PTCL helpline, and the response was to visit some local CUSTOMER CARE CENTER CCC. The next day I payed those guys a visit and the reply I got was that many WIFI modems are coming back in, because of technical glitches. So we can’t give you that, but we can give you a regular modem and you can get a TP link’s WIFI router which will make your DSL WIFI. There i was FLABBERGASTED yet AGAIN. Why in the world would i get a modem and a router. Why hook two devices up when you can get one. You can well imagine you will have two devices running 24-7 and talk about the tariff WAPDA guys are putting up these days, which always keeps climbing every week or so.

So after a little bit of a research I found WiFi Modem solution from TP Link.

I know by now you must be thinking that I am getting something form TP link guys for just writing about their stuff on my blog. I all honesty, I am not. I will agree they do send me some of their review models for my Blog, but not getting nay perks from them.

So coming back to my DISCOVERY . Its not the most top notch or the high end version of the TP LINKS wifi modem’s. More like basic to moderate range.

It comes with all the basic booklets, resource CD, LAN cable ,modem and the external antenna. The model itself can support upto 4 LAN connections and multiple WIFI connections. The unique feature if you ask would be the QSS mode. It is some sort of Security Encryption, which i am yet to dig into.

As i write this blog, I am configuring the Modem, but doesn’t seem an easy job some how.

The price of tag of this device should be anywhere between 2500 to 3000 depending on where your getting it from. Its a little more than the router as it has the modem built in too.

Here is a little blurred display of me trying to setup the modem to try it out.

TP Link’s Wireless Fidelity Adapter 54Mbps

Sometimes all you need is something stable, reliable, that doesn’t bail out on you when your in the most need. Well unfortunately my vista (May i remind you the original one) bailed out on me. It was installed on my laptop. I had to get some work done so I called for a search and rescue operation for my desktop, which had been long forgotten, thanks to WAPDA’s amazing load shedding schedules.

Any how, after a cumbersome mission of search and rescue, of all  the components of my desktop, I realized that there was no wireless fidelity access on the D top, another punch in the stomach.

Now started another SEARCH mission, but this time on the world wide web, not in the store room. I needed an instant, quick solution, so I found Tp Link’s WIFI USB Adapter with a top speed maxing out at 54 Mbps.

Its comes equipped with an external antenna, fairly larger than an ordinary USB memory stick and heavier too. In the box you also get a USB extension cable, a CD that contains all the drivers and user manuals.

The device on the whole is fairly easy to use once you have installed your drivers, the setup wizard is very user friendly. The reception was considerably better than the built in WIFI receivers of laptops.

I even installed it on my laptop and it would give me WIFI reception at places where my laptops built in receiver wouldn’t.

So for all those people who need an external adapter for you WIFI needs… its a really good buy. This should not cost more than a 1000 Rupees. Thanks to my sponsors i was given one as trial unit and it proved its worth.

TP-Link 54M Wireless G USB Adapter -QASTECH’S REVIEW (by Qastech)

HP 1102w Laser Printer

Stuck under my table, couldn’t reach for my printer’s usb cable….having this thought at the back of my mind that whether my desk jet still has enough ink to print out my documents, i was completely flustered.

This was the moment I decided, its time to bring a change…. revolutionize things around here. Thanks to YOUTUBE I did some soul searching„ i mean printer search  …’ing. In this process i realized that deskjet printers aren’t bad at all, but the cost of the catridges once the introductory ones are finished, is almost equivalent to the price of a new deskjet, which is insanely st**id. So I leaped into EXQUISITE and not to mention EXPENSIVE world of LASER JETS.

Boy I was happy to see such mammothous printers with so many options. It was fun but the sad part is the price tag. The base line is near around 7K in our homeland currency. May i remind you this was few months ago I am not sure of the current situation.

Sick and tired of the cluster and labyrinth of power cables and USB cables i THANKFULLY stumbled upon a wireless solution and wasn’t that terrible expensive after all ! I googled it up m as they say and looked it up on youtube and was good to go. Amazingly the local dealers were amazed about my choice, they were like why do I want to spend this amount on laser, kept insisting me to get this latest DESKJETOOO. So they didn’t have it lying around so i had it ordered and it reached my doorstep by next afternoon, NEAT i’d say.

w

There she was. So enough with my complaining lets get down to the facts and figures and some harsh realities.

Best thing about this printer, i’d say the black color. Then comes the WIFI connectivity, you dont need annnnnnnnnnny cables , seriously, Put this printer any where in you office, house where ever you need  it , provided its within the range of the WIFI router and you’ll be good to go. Last but not the least they have taken away THE need for you to keep all the driver cd’s in a safe place. All the drivers are fed in. You just need to plug in the usb cable once and that will run a wizard which will configure everything between the computer, router and the printer. A WORD OF CAUTION , you need to connect all the computers once to the printer inorder to sync them with the printer, other wise you wont be able to print from it.

Now the spec. sheet

HP 1102 w wifi built in LASER JET (BLACK COLOR)(BLACK AND WHITE NOT COLOR )

Comes with all those standard booklets

USB Cable

Installation CD

Introductory / Starter Toner Catridge

Power Cables ( one 2 pin) ( one 3 pin)

For the DETAILED UNBOXING you can see my video on you tube link is

Once i was done with the un boxing, it looked something like this

The printer was gorgeous, the best thing about the black color is that you rarely see black printers… Most of my deskjets were either grey or white and somehow they were a dust and dirt magnetic even after my extreme detail to cleanliness. So moving on once I switched it on I was greeted with an amazing green glow

and a couple of other sweet blue green and orange lights. Once all was good to go i printed out my first print and it worked like a charm… believe me a great sigh of relief.

A little tip to all the people reading this. Deskjet printers are really good if you plenty of cash lying around and you need color prints and not too many. But if you print a mild to moderate and don’t print color much plus economy is a matter to you get a laser printer. It’s a one time investment, which you will never regret. Some people will warn you that toners are very expensive and laser printers get jammed if you don’t use them very often. Your just being fooled. A brand new original toner can be expensive and can hit your pocket bad, but all the computer shops can refill it for you under 300 Rupees. I agree the print quality wont be as crisp as the real deal but will get you through.
