For a couple of days, I had been having issues with my WIFI. It kept on going getting connected and disconnected, which was a mystery in itself for me. I decided to sit next to my router and see whats happening. Amazingly every time i sat next to it, the ZyXel modem which i had for a year or two now behaved totally normal. The connection was rock solid and no drop outs.
This array of events kept re occurring until yesterday, when I saw the WIFI modem+router restarting on its own. I was flabbergasted. Simply no words for the erratic behavior of my BLACK BOX. So dare may I say , MUSTERED up the courage of calling the FRIENDLY and HIGHLY COMPETENT PTCL helpline, and the response was to visit some local CUSTOMER CARE CENTER CCC. The next day I payed those guys a visit and the reply I got was that many WIFI modems are coming back in, because of technical glitches. So we can’t give you that, but we can give you a regular modem and you can get a TP link’s WIFI router which will make your DSL WIFI. There i was FLABBERGASTED yet AGAIN. Why in the world would i get a modem and a router. Why hook two devices up when you can get one. You can well imagine you will have two devices running 24-7 and talk about the tariff WAPDA guys are putting up these days, which always keeps climbing every week or so.
So after a little bit of a research I found WiFi Modem solution from TP Link.

I know by now you must be thinking that I am getting something form TP link guys for just writing about their stuff on my blog. I all honesty, I am not. I will agree they do send me some of their review models for my Blog, but not getting nay perks from them.

So coming back to my DISCOVERY . Its not the most top notch or the high end version of the TP LINKS wifi modem’s. More like basic to moderate range.
It comes with all the basic booklets, resource CD, LAN cable ,modem and the external antenna. The model itself can support upto 4 LAN connections and multiple WIFI connections. The unique feature if you ask would be the QSS mode. It is some sort of Security Encryption, which i am yet to dig into.
As i write this blog, I am configuring the Modem, but doesn’t seem an easy job some how.

The price of tag of this device should be anywhere between 2500 to 3000 depending on where your getting it from. Its a little more than the router as it has the modem built in too.
Here is a little blurred display of me trying to setup the modem to try it out.
